In Our Own Voice is a NAMI signature program that NAMI Jacksonville provides to community partners, social service agencies, faith based organizations, hospitals, treatments centers, civic organizations, to name a few. It is a 40, 60, or 90 minute presentation that can be tailored to suit your needs. In Our Own Voice is told by trained presenters who have experienced mental health challenges and who share their personal stories, from the dark days of a mental health crisis to the successes, to hopes and dreams they are now experiencing in recovery. Personal experiences can include Depressive Disorders, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Schizophrenia, Borderline Personality Disorder and other brain disorders are discussed. It has a powerful impact since the presenters are people living well with mental illness.
NAMI's In Our Own Voice presentations change attitudes, assumptions and stereotypes about people with mental health conditions. These presentations provide a personal perspective of mental illness, as presenters with lived experience talk openly about what it's like to live with a mental health condition.
Our trained presenters humanize the misunderstood, highly stigmatized topic of mental illness by showing that it's possible—and common—to live well with a mental health condition. This presentation also provides:
A chance to ask presenters questions, allowing for a deeper understanding of mental health conditions and dispelling of stereotypes and misconceptions.
